Things are on the move in WA
No formal J24 Association exists in WA, however nearly all J24 boats within Perth are kept and raced from Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club (RFBYC)
Our not inconsiderable nine boat J24 fleet is improving in strength and rejuvenating, with 3 of the 9 boats readily finding young(ish) new skippers, after the retirement of a couple legendary champions from the class.
As far as is known (from a number of well-connected sources) there is at least 10 x J24’s within the Swan River Yacht Clubs and believed there MAY be one or two more.
The bulk of J24’s were for some time spread out amongst the various river clubs, however the good news is that they have now nearly all consolidated at a single club: Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club (RFBYC) – providing for some great One Design fleet racing.
RFBYC holds nine J24s, with the majority of these sailing regularly in summer – the only other known one is at South of Perth Yacht Club (SoPYC)
The RFBYC J24 Fleet – is likely to have 6 or 7 regular Saturday Racers this summer and the Midweek Fleet (Thursday) has 2-3 regulars, but would likely field 4 x J24 boats if sufficient crew are available.
The club has its own awards for J24 Consistency, a J24 Championship and a J24 Handicap Championship.
The main RFBYC Summer Series runs from October to April, with J24 racing every Saturday from 1pm to 5pm.
A midweek series also runs year round on Thursdays with racing from 2:30pm to 5:30pm
